He left all that behind and tried his hand at a bunch of different things before settling on real estate investing. Joe’s a pretty impressive guy- he was a top level advertising executive earning six figures before his 28th birthday. We talk quite a bit about his podcast, why he started it and how it has helped his business grow. Joe and I talk about all kinds of things, from his initial foray into real estate investing, to how he manages his day.

I’m glad I captured this little piece of his life and I’m happy to share it with you now. Greg says in this interview that as a photographer, he captures life. It’s refreshing to hear this kind of honesty from someone who faces these challenges every day and still decides that entrepreneurship is the path for him. These are the challenges and sacrifices and trade offs that every business owner makes, and Greg is brutally honest about how they challenge him. Not knowing where his next paycheck would be coming from. Being booked solid every weekend from April through August during the wedding season. But he always mentions the difficult side of owning a business as well. He tells the good things, like having the flexibility to have lunch at home with his family whenever he wants. One of the things I have always appreciated about Greg is that he never sugar coats what his life is really like as a business owner. He has always known his career path would follow a different route, but how he got to where he is now is the really interesting part of his story. I have known Greg for nearly twenty years and have been interested in the entrepreneurial route his life has taken. Greg has been an entrepreneur for more than a decade, and has done family’s pictures for my family, many of our mutual friends, families, coworkers and more. Once I overcame all of those obstacles, I did qualify as an EFL teacher and am very glad I did. That was because of a lack of confidence in my ability, the cost of the course, and the ‘it’s too late’ way of thinking. It took my about 6 months before I finally signed up to do an EFL course. So, when I returned home, I bought myself a netbook. I realised how important these things were to me while I was travelling. I didn’t realise how important they were to me at the time.

These are actually things I thought of doing but didn’t for three reasons: These aren’t earth-shattering realisations or really novel ideas but these are things that would have made a big difference to my travel experience and when I returned home. So, what would I do differently, if I had the chance to do it all over again? It really is worth taking that time to think about this as it will help you to have the experience you want. I can’t stress how important this stage is.

If you haven’t already done so, it would be worth reading the blog post series I published earlier this year, which begins with uncovering what you really want from the experience. It really comes down to knowing what you want from the experience, what is important to you, and thinking about the bigger picture. So, I would like to share some of the things that I would do differently, with the value of hindsight, if I was planning my RTW trip for the first time. Hindsight is a great thing, as they say, because the experience and knowledge that it comes from it is really useful, not only for you in the future but for others.
